New monitoring tool (September 26, '03 issue)

Guardian Monitor. This new monitoring software product claims to monitor "everything a child does online" - all browsers, file-sharing activity, and communications technologies (emails, IMs, and chat, "sent and received"). As for file-sharing, here's what Guardian Software says about its most top-of-mind feature: "We show what the child downloads, such as music, video, or pictures and we show what the title is, the download is and what the content of the download is. At a glance, the parent can tell how a peer-to-peer is being used. So, if a child downloads an adult movie or any movie, it will tell you the title of the movie and what the content of the movie is." For reviews of this and other monitoring products, please see "Monitoring software reviews" under Web News Briefs in our 7/11/03 issue.
