Facebook’s agreement with FTC: What it means for users

November 29, 2011 By Anne 6 Comments

"Facebook will soon be on privacy probation, thanks to a proposed settlement with the Federal Trade Commission," PC World reports. It's referring to a "consent agreement" about the FTC's "reason to believe" that Facebook has committed "fraudulent, deceptive, [or] unfair business practices," as the FTC put it in its press release – though "most of the issues raised in the complaint have been … [Read more...] about Facebook’s agreement with FTC: What it means for users

Hey, companies, tablets are family devices too!

November 29, 2011 By Anne Leave a Comment

Someone should find out how many parents there are at Apple, Amazon, and other tablet makers. But maybe it doesn't matter – no matter how many there are, they're just not thinking like parents in designing and marketing iPads, Kindles, and other tablet devices. Not a huge surprise, … [Read more...] about Young Americans want phones more than cars?!

They'll spotlight skills and achievements not necessarily acquired in traditional environments like school, adding graphical credentials to people's digital resumes and … [Read more...] about Digital achievement badges for people of all ages

Videogame ratings: Ask the app while shopping

November 21, 2011 By Anne 1 Comment

This is smart. Now, while you're standing in a store aisle staring at a bunch of videogame titles – or right when your kid's saying, "That's it, that's the game on my list, Mom/Dad!" – you can get details from the game-rating source on the spot, pretending you got a text message (feigning disinterest so s/he'll be surprised later). Sure, a lot of us shop online, but the convenience is real, and … [Read more...] about Videogame ratings: Ask the app while shopping
