Teens on social media’s impact on relationships: Survey

January 23, 2014 By Anne 2 Comments

Today a guest post that shows how much we need to understand the relationship between social media and social life – in other words, get more granular in our understanding of how social media affect the relationships in our lives (our lives as a whole, not just the online parts)…. Guest post by Kris Gowen The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) for My Future-My Choice, a peer-led sexuality education … [Read more...] about Teens on social media’s impact on relationships: Survey

To grasp social media’s effects, we need a grasp on social media!

October 24, 2013 By Anne 4 Comments

Because more than two-thirds (67%) of the US's adult Net users now use Facebook,* you'd think that it's common knowledge that Facebook really can't be described as a single activity for one person, much less a single activity for everybody who uses it. You'd think that we'd take headlines that make generalizations about people's Facebook use with a grain of salt (especially those written back when … [Read more...] about To grasp social media’s effects, we need a grasp on social media!

She never visited Myanmar before this year, when she moved there and launched … [Read more...] about Social-media natives in Myanmar, digital natives planet-wide

Pew chart of teen privacy practices on FB

Privacy in social media is important to US teens (and undoubtedly all teens). We knew this but just got further confirmation today from the Pew Internet Project's new study, "Where Teens Seek Online Privacy Advice." "The majority of teens set their profile to either fully or partially private," the authors report, and it they can't figure out how to manage their settings themselves, they get … [Read more...] about Most US teen Net users seek out privacy advice: Study

Major update from Pew on teens’ privacy practices in social media

May 21, 2013 By Anne 4 Comments

Contrary to how they're typically represented in the news media, "few teens embrace a fully public approach to social media," Pew Internet reports in a major new study, "Teens, Social Media and Privacy." Yes, they share more about themselves than we did as teens (publicly, anyway), but "they take an array of steps to restrict and prune their profiles." Pew turned up a lot of intelligence on … [Read more...] about Major update from Pew on teens’ privacy practices in social media
